Bring Your Own Device

Updated RHS BYOD Letter-9/2/2016
Install a Sonic Wall Certificate to Access Robbinsville Schools WIFI

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we usher in the 2016-2017 school year, we wanted to remind you that Robbinsville High School is a “Bring Your Own Device” school. We are in Year 2 of a three year rollout of 1:1 technology implementation. This year we are strongly encouraging students to bring their own laptop or chromebook to school so that they can more ably research, generate projects, and process their thinking in innovative ways. We will also continue to provide professional development for all RHS teachers in how to leverage this technology to better support learning, self-reflection, and growth. More information will follow about how we are using these devices in specific courses. While 1:1 devices can never replace the power of human interactions, we are excited to be on a positive pathway toward sensible and impactful technology use. Next year, during Year 3 of the initiative, we are requiring students to bring their own devices.

That being said, students do not need to bring expensive, high-powered laptops. Refurbished chromebooks retail for approximately $120, which is about the cost of a graphing calculator. These cheaper, more cost-effective devices still allow students to access the internet and utilize an array of educational applications. As with cell phones, Robbinsville High School is not liable for any lost or stolen devices. Please note that we will have sets of chromebooks available for students to use if they are unable to bring their own device. Further, electronic devices will eventually take the place of currently requested school supplies.

In order for students to be able to use their devices during this school year, they will need to install a Sonicwall certificate. Please click here to install the certificate.

Once installed, click on the link for the appropriate internet application below the certificate and follow the prompts to complete the installation process.

Please let us know if you have any questions and have a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Tew
Acting Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
